Finally Microsoft followed their competitor’s footsteps, free update to new windows versions, yes Microsoft Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1, consumers no need to pay to get the new windows, seems like an Apple iOS and Google Android

As per the Microsoft statement, all PCs and laptops running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 and all phones with Windows Phone 8.1 OS would be upgraded to the latest version of Windows 10 – for free in the first year after Windows 10 launches., not sure what will happen after the first year of free updates, anyway this will push all older OS to new Windows 10 without any issues

What benefit Microsoft will get out of free OS?

Microsoft no need to worry about the issues on different OS versions and no need to provide fixes for all the windows versions, it’s going to be single Operating system and Microsoft wants to use Windows as a service and not just an OS, also same OS for all platforms like desktop, mobile phone, laptop, tablet, TV and Xbox, Microsoft has a different OS for different platforms, desktop has desktop OS and mobile phone has Windows mobile OS, Windows 10 will be optimised to all the platforms

This also helps developers to develop apps that will work across platforms, as an end user I can buy and use the single OS across all platforms which we are using, no need to invest different OS for our different devices

Also the good news is single App Store for across all platforms, Microsoft wants a single app that can run across a PC, phone to TV, applicant can be shared with across platforms, and we can buy a single application, that can be used across all our devices, it’s help to move standalone applications to cloud based application, with single user licence we can access the application across all the platforms

Windows 10 currently available only for developers to test and develop the application, check after it get officially launched, may be in next few months, we will upgrade our old OS to new Windows 10, check and download Windows 10 (https://insider.windows.com/)
